Hoplothrips japonicus Karny, 1913

This species is widely distributed throughout Japan except for the Ogasawara Islands. It is also distributed in Taiwan and China, and is probably widely distributed in East Asia. It is the most common Hoplothrips species in Japan. Females are known from both macropterae and micropterae, but in males only micropterae are known so far. It lives on dead trees and sometimes makes large colonies, but it can also be found in fungi. Fungus-feeder.
